Freshwater mollusks as proxies for assessing agrochemicals hazards in Volta Grande Reservoir, Brazil

Brazil has experienced a rise in the use of agrochemicals recent years, representing potential threat to nearby ecosystems. The Volta Grande Reservoir (Minas Gerais/São Paulo, Brazil) about 87% its area surrounded by agricultural systems, and many compounds used agriculture end up being carried into water bodies. Given ecological risk, our purpose was assess pesticides reservoir. We collected specimens two bivalves three gastropods using bottom dredging visual investigation different sites within sampling were classified according their distance from dam, all close lands. samples processed frozen for qualitative toxicological analysis mass spectrophotometry. Eight identified, including four organochlorines (Aldrin, p,p’-DDE, Heptachlor epoxide, Endrin) organophosphates (Disulfoton, Malathion, Parathion- methyl, Parathion-ethyl). All five studied species (Limnoperna fortunei, Corbicula fluminea, Melanoides tuberculata, Aylacostoma tenuilabris, Pomacea aff. canaliculata) presented traces Of eight found analysis, six are illegal Brazil, raising awareness continuous forbidden pesticides, also risk area.
